A word from the LIACS...

The internal aio conference is an initiative of the PhD-students of the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS). It is a good sign that students take this kind of initiative: in my opinion a bottom-up approach works usually the best for such conferences.

A large number of PhD-projects are presented and the conference provides students and researchers inside (and also outside) the LIACS with a good overview of research activities going on in Computer Science at Leiden University. PhD-projects are usually at the frontier of science: within such projects one can feel the heartbeat of science. Therefore, it will be interesting to see the presentations and listen to the discussions.

I hope that the two days of the conference will be fruitful and stimulating for all the participants.
